Free League Publishing made a HUGE announcement on Monday!
This might be the first installment of a major series down the line. Free League Publishing has announced the return of a campaign setting that defined the Dragonbane RPG. The Kickstarter is coming in 2026, and we’ll be here to cover it as soon as we have more news.
What’s a “Trudvang” and why should I care?
Oh, I’d heard of this campaign clear back in the early 2000s and whispers about it here and there since. I never gave it much thought, however. I mean, how many fantasy games with their own special worlds were out there at the time?
The iconic world of deep forests and endless mystery returns to its roots as a massive setting for the award-winning Dragonbane RPG. Trudvang is a world of shadowed woods and fathomless mists, of dreadful beasts and unsung heroes, of wrathful gods and endless mystery, deeply original but with strong roots in Nordic mythology. In fact the Dragonbane we know and love now sprang from this game.
Dragonbane: Trudvang, produced by Free League under license from CMON, is coming to Kickstarter in early 2026. The campaign will offer no less than four masterfully illustrated hardback volumes in Swedish and English. Link to the Kickstarter is here.
Four books, amazing quality assured.
Dragonbane: Trudvang is sure to be packed with the goodness we’ve come to expect from other Dragonbane products. The Trudvang brand and its original content was created by Theodore Bergqvist and Magnus Malmberg of Riotminds, as a campaign world for their Swedish edition of Dragonbane (Drakar och Demoner) in the early 2000s. Trudvang later took a life of its own in the separate Trudvang Chronicles RPG and the board game Trudvang Legends by CMON. The Basic Roleplaying version of the game can still be found on DriveThruRPG.com (through my affiliate link.
I’m especially excited about the writing, editing, and adapting Trudvang to the current version of Dragonbane will be headed by Magnus Seter, a veteran RPG writer (Cyberpunk 2020, Mutant Chronicles, Forbidden Lands, Dragonbane) who also worked on Trudvang in its early days. I’m a huge fan of CP2020 and OG Mutant Chronicles from way back. To have him building this is amazing!
I’m certain the art for these books will be outstanding as will pretty much all Free League games. I see masters like Paul Bonner and Alvaro Tapia are involved. Paul Bonner also created the new cover art for the Dragonbane: Trudvang World Book, and Francesca Baerald has drawn a new world map of Trudvang. I’m fairly certain we’ll see input from other Free League artists as well.
The books are:

•World Book: A deep dive into Trudvang’s history, peoples, and regions from Stormlands to Westmark, from Soj to the Great Ice Plains, richly illustrated. I mean, it’s a new-to-us campaign setting. Eat your heart out, coastal Wizards.
•Book of Heroes: New Trudvang professions, skills, heroic abilities, and magic – wielded by vitner weavers and dimwalkers. Cool, because while core Dragonbane rocks as-is, having new professions and abilities to mess around with will be epic.
•Jorgi’s Bestiary: The classic monster manual for Trudvang returns, featuring beasts from braskelwurm and draugr to hrimtursir and yggdras, all adapted for Dragonbane. More monsters! Woot!
•The Black Sun: A legendary four-part epic campaign in Trudvang, revised and published in English for the first time. I’m excited to try this. I’m wondering if I can work it as a solo game. That might make for really exciting Sunday nights.

It probably should be noted that players and Game Masters will need a copy of the Dragonbane Core Rulebook or the rulebook included in the boxed set in order to play Dragonbane: Trudvang. I thought that would kinda be a given, but it wouldn’t have been the first time Free League reprinted the rules in a campaign guide. I’m happy they’re going this route. I love Dragonbane so freakin much!

Thank you for being here with me today. I appreciate you. Keep it real, but please strive for positivity, too. Please embrace the things that bring you the most joy in your life.
