Our friends at Misfit Hobbies have just launched their new Kickstarter for The Adventurer’s Guide to Alchemy a beautifully illustrated cocktail and mocktail book designed especially for fantasy TTRPG fans!

The Adventurer’s Guide to Alchemy blends storytelling, worldbuilding, and real-world drinks into one unforgettable game night experience. Alongside the drink book, backers will also receive a companion adventure book, packed with system-agnostic encounters, enemies, and one-shots tied to the recipes, so every drink you serve at the table becomes part of the story.

With over 30 fantasy-inspired drinks like the Shadowstep Martini, Potion of Vitality, and the legendary Dwarven Fire, this is one project that’s made to be shared around the table.

Heh-heh. Heh. Heh. Fire!

This project came to my attention on Instagram from my friend, @Knigobi . She’s a big believer in this project and after I looked it over, I have to agree. In this time of tariffs and economic upheaval, I also have to admire the intestinal fortitude it takes to fire up a Kickstarter, but it appears they’ve gone all out to make it really worthwhile.

Gorak, your humble host.

I was pleasantly surprised by the volume of goodness in this particular Kickstarter project. At first I thought it was just the book of drinks, and that’s cool, but I was initially mistaken. Looking further into the details I noticed there is also a book of TTRPG fantasy encounters, too. I really like the more generic appeal of the second book. It’s not strictly D&D 5E.

The sheer amount of neat add-ons for this Kickstarter is amazing. I’m not entirely sure how The Scrapper’s Handbook relates to fantasy alchemy and monster encounters, but that’s cool regardless. There’s also a spiffy booklet of 10 additional cocktails created by such D&D YouTube luminaries Ginny Di and Diana of the Rose.

Pretty!

I haven’t personally touched alcohol in over a decade. Even if my meds weren’t a concern my gluten intolerance and diabetes are a still a major barrier to booze. BUT I have been assured that there are still drink recipes that can be used out of the 10 mocktails in this book that I can have without massive side effects. Neato!

I’m definitely curious about the encounters and adventures book more than the drinks, however. I’ve often said encounters are the lifeblood of adventuring and I want to know what this book brings to the table. I know the whole Delicious In Dungeon vibe has really caught on as of late and the Adventures book for this project promises drinks concocted from various monster bits.

No preview would be complete without mentioning artwork. All of the art in this project was created by real humans. No AI was used. Artists Sam, Gatsu, and Gioele are already hard at work creating beautiful pieces for this project. Very cool.

I downloaded the free sample. Even if I were still drinking, that would be a lot of alcohol content for me personally. One sip. Two sips, Three sips. “Sh*t. What day is it now? Where am I?”

The adventure snippet is cool. I’ll likely be stealing it for use with Dragonbane at some point. It’s mostly stat-less, so it fits into anything with a little work. Really good roleplaying encounter with maybe a short brawl? Looks like a lot of fun without giving spoilers.

Lastly, I wanted to comment on the presentation style of the Kickstarter itself. Samuel Steele did the whole thing in character for the most part. It’s a good read regardless of whether or not you back the Kickstarter.
