One month in and I’m still loving it.

It took an entire month, but I finally rolled a city in the new world. Can’t wait for the characters to find it. The hex also rolled “Beast Men,” but that may translate to Wolfkin by the time the group finds it. The city’s main industry was hunting so it kinda fits. On the other hand, when I see Beast Men all I can think of are the goat-like beings from the Diablo series, who make pretty cool NPCs.

I’m happy Hex-A-Day 2025 seems to be something I’ve been able to keep up with so far. We haven’t had a major meltdown anywhere in the TableTop RolePlaying Game industry or hobby this year so far. Nothing akin to The Great Dungeons & Dragons Open Game License Debacle of 2023 has struck yet. (Knock on wood.) I would love for the next 11 months to be filled with blissful worldbuilding on my part.

Every hex has been interesting so far.

I’m learning geological terms I didn’t know or had forgotten from my two semesters of Rocks for Jocks in college. (Ironically, I never played sports past high school.) The other day I rolled “scree” for a hex. Conveniently the hex was hilly terrain. It flowed together nicely. I think I have a cool idea for an encounter in that particular terrain. My first thought was, “What if Fizgig was an Earth Elemental?”

We’ve also had dragons come up as a result of random rolls. I already had a vision for what I wanted my dragons to look like in this world. Now I get to play around with them. Dragons have thus far been tied to their terrain type. This goes wayyy back to the 3E D&D days when my dragons were considered spirits of the land. If the dragon was slain, consequences on the area could be dire if nothing stepped in to replace it. Did I mention I have a very rich spirit world in mind?

Taking a half step back.

Eventually I will be exploring the hexes I’ve generated with my solo adventuring party. While I’m generating hexes every day, I plan to go back and fill in some specifics. If I’m going to ask other people to explore this as yet unnamed world with their own adventurers, I’m going to need points of interest, and some details filled in.

I have some plans in the back of my mind. I’ve rewritten the encounter tables to better reflect my world design view. I hope anyone who runs this world will pick up on some of the thematic elements. I want to give the impression that not one, but several apocalypses befell the previous tenants of this planet. There are lots of ruins to plunder and necropoli to explore. There could be entire cities to explore buried under plants and soil.

A few interesting encounters so far.

As shown in my Monday Monsters lately, the group will be running into a lot of peaceful, fuzzy, loveable, warm, dare I say “cozy” NPCs. I’ve generated two friendly towns so far. Both groups have managed to live harmoniously with nature and somehow have avoided confrontations with dragons, zombies, rogue constructs, and roving bands of marauders.

It’s looking a little like humans are the biggest threat to the planet so far. What’s new, right? Every time I roll bandits; it seems that they end up randomly being humans. Maybe they’re the descendants of a ruined a kingdom nearby?

I’m excited to see what other developments pop up over the next eleven months. I’m going to do my best to flesh out parts of it well enough to build a full-on campaign for publication. My ultimate goal is to create a cool campaign world for everyone to explore. Heck, I might even make it compatible with D&D someday. I just want to share the joy.

Thank you for being here with me today. I appreciate you. Keep it real, but please strive for positivity, too. Please embrace the things that bring you the most joy in your life.
