Time to raise a ruckus on Monster Monday.

I was always impressed with the Necromancer in Warhammer Fantasy (miniatures wargame) who could wave his hand and cause an entire unit of skeletons to pop up out of the ground or stand back up after being demolished by another army. The same goes for various other tabletop games and video games. (Warcraft 2, anyone?) I also played Undead for MageKnight, where the necromancers couldn’t do that, but lots of skeletons and such, nonetheless. I might have kind of an obsession with skeletons in fantasy games.

I’ve said before, various Undead are my favorite thing to stock a dungeon with because they don’t really eat much, never sleep, usually follow instructions, and they’re pretty good at keeping low end adventurers at bay. They make for pretty good bad guys all around. Necromancers or necromantic magic is ultimately what makes it happen.

The one creature in Dragonbane that would dare not be spoken of would be the Skeletal Dragon. Whatever magic was used to raise such a foul creature would surely be forbidden. The only fate worse than being raised as one of the Undead, would be if one should be possessed by a Demon.

Skeletal Dragon

Description: This horrifying abomination is neither truly alive nor dead. Rather, it has been reanimated by the foulest of all magicks known to Kin or Dragon. Magical Wings allow it to move freely through the air.

MONSTER ATTACKS

D6 Attacks:

1 Undead Dragon Roar! The Skeletal Dragon opens its mouth and lets out a chilling roar. Everyone within 20 meters suffers a Fear attack, with a Bane on the WIL roll.

2 Skeletal Claw Attack! The Skeletal Dragon sweeps its claws at two opponents within 4 meters of each other, who take 2D8 slashing damage each. The targets also suffers 1d6 Necrosis damage and can’t heal unless magic is applied, or a Shift rest is completed. Damage is not healed naturally during the first Shift rest.

3.  Rise and Destroy: The Skeletal Dragon lifts off the ground (terrain permitting) and blasts the area underneath where it stood engulfing with a massive gout of flames covering 12×12 meters of area around it. Any creature caught in the fire takes 2d10 fire damage. A successful EVADE puts the character at the outer edge of the damage zone.

4 Bony Tail Strike! The Skeletal Dragon sweeps its spiked tail at its victims. Everyone within 6 meters takes 2D8 bludgeoning damage and is knocked down.

6 Fire Breath! The fire forms a cone that is 10 meters long and whose width at any given point equals the distance from the Skeletal Dragon’s mouth. Anyone hit by the flames suffers 3D10 fire damage. Armor has no effect.
