Knife Dragon for Dragonbane RPG.
The term “Dragon” is misleading because the creature is actually a sort of golem animated by demonic magic. Hundreds of years ago a wise king ordered the town’s blacksmiths to make the statue of a dragon out of all of the knives, swords, and other metal weapons removed from battlefields and confiscated from criminals. The mighty dragon stood in the main square of the largest town in the kingdom as a testament to law and order in the kingdom.
The statue is a large mass of metal, hilts, and hafts. Its wings were crafted from longswords and greataxes. The beasts open mouth is filled with teeth made of daggers and knives with a red athame as its tongue. The fearsome looking beast sports the tips of longswords and broadswords on its outstretched claws. Its tail is a wicked barbed spear point capable of impaling unsuspecting adventurers.
The villagers were quite proud of the statue; cleaning and oiling it two or three times per year. Over the years, the kingdom waned. The wise king who commissioned the statue passed away and eventually his heirs succumbed to corruption and decline as all royal families do. People stopped caring about the dragon statue, save a group of cultists who met in the dark of night.
Following a ritual one night when the veil was at its thinnest, the athame glowed and the dragon roared to life! Of course it promptly slayed and feasted upon the cultists, their blood somehow aiding in the creature’s revival. Now the metal monstrosity rains terror down on anything and everything that crosses its path. Unfortunately, the townspeople were slaughtered or fled to the mountains. The local lord was destroyed by the dragon and his people scattered upon seeing what it had done to him.

*Killing the Knife Dragon is difficult at best unless Banish or Purge are used on the creature. When the creature reaches 0 HP, the athame tongue may be removed and can be destroyed with Banish, Purge, magical fire, a blacksmith’s forge or by casting it into volcano. Failure to remove the athame or melt the entire dragon will cause it to regenerate 1 hp per day for 36 days when the dragon will rise again. It will hunt any creature whose blood touched its body.
