Marvelous Miniature: Dragonbane Bestiary Standees.

I know I talk about Dragonbane RPG a lot these days. It’s just that good. (*Plus Mallards. Did I mention Mallards?) The standees in the core boxed set and for the Dragonbane Bestiary are outstanding! I had to order more bases.

The standees are designed to work on the same old one inch grid we’re used to using for other dungeon fantasy games. I believe the European members of our family might refer to it as 25mm square. Each square equals 2 meters in Dragonbane/Drakar och Demoner. Both the Core box set and the Dragonbane Bestiary standees come with pieces of grid in green and gray.

I own a lot of minis, both pre-painted and those I’ve painted myself, but I prefer these standees for portability and quality. They’re made of that high quality European board game stock for years of play. The art is that wonderful Dragonbane art from the books.

I used the paper/cardstock Battletech standees from the old, boxed sets for years before switching to plastic and pewter minis. I still have that set even now. It’s so much easier to carry a fishing tackle box full of cardboard and some plastic bases around than three or four massive totes full of plastic/metal minifigs.

The only modification to the standees I’ve had to make is the addition of some Warhammer 40,000 bases and a little poster putty. This way I can distinguish which squares the larger monsters are taking up. The standees are awesome except in that small regard of the bases not truly showing the size. I happen to have plenty of bases leftover from my WH40K and WH Fantasy days that it was an easy modification.

Amazon also sells a wide variety of plastic disks and bases in larger and smaller sizes for pretty cheap. I have been eyeing the clear plastic markable ones for some time now. They will come in handy for horses and standees that don’t exist in Dragonbane yet. (Fun fact: Warhammer cavalry bases work perfectly on one inch grid for horses, too.)

Whatever you use, the main thing is to have fun. I use the standees for solo gaming as well as in person groups. They’re a lot of fun and easy to carry. The tactile joy of plastic and metal minis works great for home games and dedicated minis games. For casual Dragonbane, these standees are perfect. Happy gaming.
