Sensational session: How to Roleplay the Easy Way.

Three ideas to help new players have that sensational session:

  1. Punctuality counts! Please show up on time or as close as possible. 15-20 minutes early is always better than on time or late. I know it sounds intuitive, but life happens. Please call the GM or one of the other players and let them know if you’re running late.

  2. Be prepared! Please remember to bring your dice, pencils, completed character sheet if you have one, and snacks, drinks, creature comforts for yourself. The GM might have you make your character on game day. Please do your best to be ready when the game starts.

Learn what your character can do. If you’re playing a spell caster, you might want to get spell cards that describe what all your various spells do. If you’re playing a fighter-type character, know what your maneuvers, weapons, and special abilities do. Roguish characters require a lot of skill use at times. Know your character’s skills, magic items (if any,) spells, feats, etc.

  3. Play your character. You don’t have to be an actor. You just have to think a little bit in terms of what your character would do. Yes, your character sheet has all kinds of skills and abilities listed, but what would the character actually do? What does that look like? You’re only limited by your imagination.
