RPG with great writing: ICONS: Assembled Edition by Steve Kenson.
I love ICONS. It kept me sane during some pretty insane years. Even if I was just making characters, designing villainous organizations, plotting the invasion of Earth from other dimensions, or coming up with whole campaigns, it was something RPG to occupy my mind. Only a handful of games have ever achieved that level of my focus. Steve Kenson has the distinct privilege of being one of my favorite authors.
I was also a big fan of Mutants & Masterminds for years prior to getting into ICONS. That’s cool because Steve Kenson was one of the major contributors to that game as well. I still drool on certain M&M books today. ICONS is just simpler, more compact, and resembles the good old Marvel FASERIP I grew up with (to a lesser degree.)
Steve’s intro to is here:

I think this passage sums up how I feel about supers gaming in a nutshell. Even as a fully grown adult, the kid inside me loves to cut loose and play my favorite powered armor character from when I was in high school. I still love to imagine superhero teams akin to the Justice League and Justice Society. Gaming and comics are the match made in heaven.
I love the game. I love the genre. I love the way Steve Kenson writes. Thank you!
Thank you for being here today with me. I appreciate you. Please embrace the things that bring you the most joy.
