They will be showcasing new and upcoming projects on Thursday.
When I go to Gen Con, (IFF I ever get to go again,) one of my goals in life is to speak with as many publishers as possible from both my perspective as a blogger as well as my interest as a potential designer. Nowadays, Free League Publishing would be my highest priority. They make my current favorite fantasy game, Dragonbane.
Obviously, their list of games is far longer and more impressive than just Dragonbane. My first priority at Gen Con 2024 on Thursday would be the Free League Showcase, that will detail new and upcoming game releases.
Here are the deets on the Showcase:
On Thursday August 1st at 2 PM in room ICC: 245, Free League invites press and the public to a reveal of exciting news for the coming year and the chance to ask the game designers anything. The panelists include:
- Tomas Härenstam (Free League co-founder and lead designer of multiple Free League titles)
- Gareth Hanrahan (lead writer of Moria™ – Through the Doors of Durin)
- Joe LeFavi (co-writer of the Blade Runner RPG)
- Kiku Pukk Härenstam (scenario writer for Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying)
Click here to sign up for the Showcase. If it’s fully booked already, please reach out to pr@uberstrategist.com.
The list of upcoming previews is really cool. Here’s what we know so far:
I gotta say I’m excited about The Electric State. I think this game, movie, etc looks freakin neat. The art from the book is pretty intense. It’s got a remarkable setting, and I can’t wait to see more.
The Electric State Roleplaying Game
Release: Q3 2024

Head out on a journey through America in an alternate 1997. The ruins of gigantic battle drones litter the countryside, heaped together with the discarded trash of a high-tech consumerist society in decline. A road trip on the verge of reality awaits. This is a game of exploration, but that which is explored is yourself and your friends, and what you are willing to do when the world collapses around you.
The Electric State Roleplaying Game is based on the praised narrative art book The Electric State by acclaimed visual artist and author Simon Stålenhag soon to be adapted into a major motion picture by the Russo brothers (Avengers: Endgame), starring Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) and Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy).
The Electric State Roleplaying Game is written by Nils Hintze (Tales From the Loop RPG, Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying, The Walking Dead Universe RPG) in collaboration with the Free League core team. The rules of the game are based on the Year Zero Engine, used in award-winning games such as the ALIEN RPG, Blade Runner RPG, Tales From the Loop RPG and The Walking Dead Universe RPG, but uniquely tailored for this new game. The One Ring’s Moria: Through the Doors of Durin should already be available before Gen Con, but it’s worthy of mentioning here. It will be interesting to give feedback if you already have the book or find out more at the Showcase if you’re thinking about picking up a copy.

Then we come to the announcement that would cause security to taze me on the way in because I’d be the epitome of rabid drooling fanboy over Dragonbane: Path of Glory. I’m still learning Swedish, but from what I gathered this is a collection of three Drakar och Demoner modules that are cleaned up and presented as a campaign. Sounds amazing.
Dragonbane: Path of Glory
Release: Q4 2024

Coming to the legendary Dead Forest in search of treasure, glory and a solution to the ancient curse laying waste to the forest, the adventurers soon find themselves embroiled in an epic conflict reaching back to the very foundations of the world. The quest will take the adventurers through the depths of the forest, under the mountain, and into a strange new land where the fate of the world will be determined.
Path of Glory was the first major adventure campaign released for the original Swedish edition of the Dragonbane RPG (Drakar och Demoner), in three installments during 1985 and 1986: The Dead Forest, Gates of Power, and Heart of Darkness. This new edition, reimagined and updated by Free League and the original author Roger Undhagen, collects the trilogy in a single volume.
This full-color, hardback edition has been given completely new illustrations by David Brasgalla and new cover art by Johan Egerkrans. The rules are fully updated to the latest edition of Dragonbane and the book includes a large, double-sided map painted by Francesca Baerald. Read more

Free League reps will be available for interviews throughout the convention.
The Free League game creators taking part in the Showcase will also be available throughout Gen Con for interviews. If you wish to schedule an interview ahead of the convention, please use this link or reach out to pr@uberstrategist.com
The main release at Gen Con is the long-awaited massive expansion Moria™ – Through the Doors of Durin for The One Ring™ and its 5E adaptation Moria – Shadow of Khazad-dûm™for The Lord of the Rings™ Roleplaying, but there will be much more to see and do.

I love to visit the dealer room and I’d make a point to find this booth.
At booth #2537 in the main trade hall, visitors can grab Free League’s latest titles, get books signed, or just chat with the creators.
I’d also run Dragonbane demos for free outside of the official games, but I’d be interested in their official games, too.
Free League has two rooms for game events this year – the main game room in ICC #137 in the corridor right outside the main trade hall, and one at the JW Marriot in the White River Ballroom H-J. There will be no less than 195 games run in partnership with Lurking Fears, including Dragonbane, the ALIEN RPG, The One Ring, Vaesen, the Blade Runner RPG, and more. To find all events, search for Free League Publishing in the Gen Con event system.
If you are fortunate enough to visit Free League Publishing at Gen Con, please say “Hi” for me. I’ll be here in Iowa dealing with family stuff, school coming up, and a pending kitchen renovation. I would love to be there enjoying Dragonbane with you all.
Thank you for being here today with me. I appreciate you. Please embrace the things that bring you the most joy.
