I hadn’t been paying much attention to Basic RolePlaying until today.

Come join the Basic Roleplaying Design Challenge!

This is amazing news!

I get pretty excited any time I see “Universal Game Engine.”

Then the nice folx at Chaosium were kind enough to include it in a contest. I almost came unglued when I saw this. And it uses the ORC License. Chaosium is a renowned company, probably best known for Call of Cthulhu.

The other aspect of this contest that’s quite appealing to me is the possibility of winning enough cash to develop a new setting and upgrade my computer. I also love the idea of upgrading this blog’s plan on WordPress and investing in new publishing software such as Affinity or Adobe InDesign.

Universal game systems are terrific because they provide a system and all one has to do is provide the setting, world concept, and define the tropes. Sure, the system may need a bit of tweaking and hacking to get the concept to fit. That’s half the fun. I have so many ideas I could build for this, I’m not sure where to start.

A few details worthy of noting:

The link to the Entry Form is here.
Entries must be in by  May 31st, 2024 at 11:59pm Pacific US time.
The Basic game rules are summed up in the ORC Content Document for FREE.

This is what I’ve been talking about.

I was talking about this not too long ago- more companies need to do open calls for writers and designers. This opportunity is perfect. Add to that the fact that it’s the second largest TTRPG producer in the world in charge of this contest. Yay cash prizes, but more importantly it’s a leg up into the industry.

I haven’t worked much with BRP until now. I knew of its existence. I have Mythras which is similar. I’ve had plenty of experience with d100 systems, so the mechanics don’t worry me as much. Every game system has a learning curve, but this one has been around for a long time now and I think I can handle it. Honestly for the kind of prize money and industry clout, I’ll figure out just about anything you’d like.

Thank you for stopping by today. Good luck if you enter. I appreciate you and wish you all the best in life. Please go out and embrace the things that bring you the most joy today.
