Actually, I would say the character that I played that gave me the most nightmares was my Malkavian for Vampire the Masquerade. To this day I still shudder every time I think that I peered to the darkness within myself and came up with a character that was Hannibal Lecter meets Jeffery Dahmer with a tiny bit of Bugs Bunny thrown in.
Luckily none of my Vampire LARP characters were ever grim and evil and it’s been years since I did anything World of Darkness related. I have always been partial to Werewolf: the Apocalypse and Hunter: the Reckoning. I think my tabletop Vampire experience was a fluke and won’t ever happen again.
I say “scary” because that character was very dark in the evilest sense of the word. I dunno what I was thinking when I played a character that nasty. Luckily, I was in a huge group of close friends and managed to stay out of the spotlight. Most of the really creepy, awful things that character was capable of happened off stage so to speak. Nowadays, I don’t think some of my antics would have flown without the X card going up. (At the time there were no Safety Tools to speak of and I did things to make veteran Storytellers cringe.)
I’m glad I’ve long since moved on from those days. Having a somewhat dark side helps out as a GM but seems to lead to trouble for me as a player. These days I keep everything pretty PG-13 because my players are young.
Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate you a lot. I promise Love and Light are my way these days. See you tomorrow.
