If I have a simple enough game- Shadowdark, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Old School Essentials, and such- I just write out my character on a regular old piece of paper. Back in my AD&D 2E era, I made all of my characters on an 11” x 17” legal pad. I was most comfortable doing things this way, but I find the size of the legal pad is awkward in relation to some books. My next serious player character (IF that ever happens again) might be done in a hardcover journal.
Otherwise, I tend to print off regular character sheets straight out of the PDF or back of the book. I’ve never really designed a character sheet for D&D or any other game. I know how to do it. I’ve spent a great deal of time doing layout and design for periodicals and websites. I’d have to put some thought into it to make it look nice. I think there are plenty of artists out there who are much more qualified to do the art needed for a truly beautiful character sheet.
Thanks for stopping by. This one was kinda brief. Honestly, as long as my players have a character statted out and maybe some background, I don’t care what their sheet looks like. I appreciate you stopping by. Have a lovely and safe weekend.
