This was kind of a tough call. My group did really well with Dungeon Crawl Classics Tower of the Black Pearl by Harley Stroh for Goodman Games. Then it suddenly dawned on me.

The two books that got me through hours of solo and group gaming in high school- Book of Lairs 1 and 2 for AD&D. These weren’t standalone adventures per se, but they contain hours upon hours of really well written encounters and NPCs. They are the template for what modern companies should probably be doing for longer form adventure books.
