Matter D: Budding young college student Matthew Roger Davis was a theatre major who needed some extra cash. He volunteered as a test subject for what was supposed to be a benign, harmless new chemotherapy treatment until things went horribly awry. When he awoke weeks later in the hospital, he discovered that his face was gone! His face had turned into a malleable putty-like substance.

His vocal cords were forever altered as well. His new voice was squeaky and difficult to regulate. To make matters even worse, Davis began to seek out treatments to cure his condition. He turned to his roommate, who had connection in a radiology lab. Thinking they had found the solution to stabilizing his genetic structure, they bombarded Davis with a high level of Gamma Neutrino radiation.

Distraught when nothing appeared to happen, Davis lashed out in a fit of rage. That’s when he discovered his second ability. He could shift nearby matter into other forms of matter. It wouldn’t work on flesh, but it was quite effective on air, clothes, water, food, and anything else in the environment around him.

By this time, Davis was in heavy debt. The medical treatments and loss of his scholarships made his bills almost impossible to pay. Davis turned to the shady side of the loan industry for help. He became a bus boy and eventually a waiter for a restaurant owned by a reputed mobster. His new employer soon discovered Davis’s special talents and a new bargain was struck.

Davis soon embarked on the life of a metahuman hit man for Don Romano. Since his powers couldn’t effect flesh directly, Davis had to get creative with his matter powers. He started by turning the air around the target’s head into metal. He turned a shower floor under one target into raw sodium. The more jobs he performed, the cleverer and more gruesome his crimes became.

Eventually his debt was paid, and Romano let Davis go. Romano remains in New York and has managed to avoid arrest for any major crimes. Davis became an assassin for hire. When the law in one location got too close, he simply took on a new identity and moved to another city. That’s where our heroes come in.

The caper:

The group is alerted to a new villain in town when a social media influencer dies tragically when her swimming pool is filled with glass. A second one is found cemented inside her tanning bed. The group must figure out who hired this assassin and where he’ll strike next. It becomes apparent a rival to the two social media stars, Amy Lovelight, aka Amanda Rozenburg had found a way to eliminate critics and rivals. It turns out her rivals were planning to tell everyone her real name and that her rags-to-riches story was built on her family’s used car sales empire.

Unfortunately for Davis, he has developed a fondness for the social media star. Amy used her charms on the socially awkward assassin to gain his trust and keep him around. After her ex boyfriend and former roommate are eliminated, she will have little need of Davis. He has other plans, however and is trying to become her new romance.

Will the group step in before anyone else gets hurt?
Will Davis land a date with his psychopathic employer?
